THE WALL OF FACES

I never met uncle Mike. My father named me after him a few months after he was killed in Vietnam. I was my father's 1st born son. He named me after his little brother. The tears well up just thinking about that. I love you Uncle Mike. I think about you all the time. Your grateful nephew -Michel Vincent Wright

In Spanish Class at Jesse H. Jones High School in Houston, Texas, you sat by me. I was always so nervous when Senor O'Brien called on me. You would whisper "Emily you can do this, you know this". When you were graduating in December 1967, I asked you what you were going to do. Your reply was "I'm going into the Marines, just like my Dad." Then in February, the principal announced over the intercom that you had died and will never forget how sad I was. The Vietnam Wall was built while I lived in Washington, DC. and I had just had my daughter when we visited. I have visited and touched your name so many times with tears streaming down my face. Last time I copied your photograph and put down your information and then laminated it. I left it on the ground underneath the panel you are on. I stepped back and cried while watching people bending down to look at your information. I found out a few years ago where you are interred in Ft. Sam Houston, Texas and visited you. Your parents are buried with you. You will always have a place in my heart.

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
