Remembering An American Hero
Dear CPL Howard Hugh Withey, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter

Old Friend
I remember those long talks we had at Khe Sanh. I didn't even know you were on Hill 950, but remember very well when they hit the base with a few rockets and morters and tried to overrun you guys. The next morning we found out you were one of those who didn't make it. I have often thought of you over the years Howard when my children and grandkids were born, always wondering what life might have held in store for you. You are with me in my heart and I hope someday we can sit on a sandbag bunker and drink a cup of c-ration coffee once again.
