Dear Gysgt Eugene Wire, Thank you for your service as an Infantry Unit Leader. Glad you were found. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Valentine's Day is soon. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance, and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Gunny: On 10 April, 2019, we revisited Hill 881s in Vietnam, where you gave your last full measure of devotion and where most of your mortal remains reside. We said a heartfelt prayer over the purple flowers growing from the foxhole where you and Gunny Robitaille perished. You have not been forgotten. Semper Fidelis, Tom Esslinger
