Attack on Hill 34 – March 4, 1968

Hill 34 was located approximately five kilometers (3.0 miles) southwest of Da Nang in Quang Nam Province, RVN. A sprawling complex, it was the battalion headquarters for several 1st Marine Division units including the 7th Communication Battalion. At 1:40 AM on March 4, 1968, twenty-five 122mm rockets impacted in the 7th Communication Battalion cantonment area. Three Marines were killed and another eight were wounded. The lost “commo” men included LCPL Alan D. Carson, LCPL Voyd E. Tidwell, and PFC Richard E. Windbigler. One of the wounded, PFC Gregg R. Fourmentin, was medically evacuated to the Navy hospital ship USS Repose (AH-16) with multiple shrapnel wounds to the body. He died of his injuries on April 3, 1968. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance, and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.
