Remembering An American Hero

Dear LCPL Donald Lewis Winckler, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter

Ten Years Later

I wanted to come back again Skip ten years after my last visit. It's incredible how fast time goes by. I can still remember like it was yesterday going to the Mariner theater with you to see scary movies like "Them" and "House on Haunted Hill". Those were great times we didn't know how good we had it back in those days in small town like Marine City.
After I got back I used to cruise Marine City. I loved that town; but most of all I remember looking up to you. I enjoyed tagging along after you. I was probably a pain.
I think about you often; and when I do, I think of your family. I really screwed up I had a chance to talk with you mom; I lost the contact information and wasn't able to get it back. That really bothered me. I wanted a chance to talk to her about you and the family. I missed her, your dad, and your sister Suzy (I remember her as "Tuey" but I don't think she liked that.
Sorry to get so verbose; but it's been a long time and like I said I miss you.
