OCS Might 94th CompanyS

Richard graduated September 28, 1968 from Infantry Officer Candidate School (OCS) and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant Infantry Officer. I am a classmate and knew Rich and his desire to do his best. All his fellow classmates would attest that graduating from Infantry OCS was no small task. He was one of the few who made it to graduation and I know he was proud to make it to Commissioning and to be one of the Mighty 94th Company "Freemans Fantastic Few". His sacrifice pains all his classmates, but he choose to be an infantry Officer and volunteered to be an aviator and none gave greater service than he. Next year will be the 50th Anniversary of our graduation, and a reunion is to be held at Fort Benning, Ga. We want you present DANIEL, if not in body, in spirit. Those of us remaining, that can attend, will honor you at the reunion.

Thank You

Dear Lt. Brewer,
Thank you for your service as a Rotary Wing Aviation Unit Commander (Helicopter Pilot) with the 1st Cavalry. Mike was 1st Cav, say hi to him. This is Independence Day weekend, and it is important for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Legacy

I'd like to post a remembrance for my father 1st LT Richard Brewer. I was only 3 when he deployed in February, and barely 4 when he returned to be laid to rest in May of 1970, and I only have a few clear first-hand memories, but I always felt growing up that he was part of my life. I felt that because of the stories and impressions, the love and respect that his memory was shown by everyone who knew him. My aunt, uncles, grandparents and especially my mother helped keep him alive in my youth and allowed his values and sacrifice to be a meaningful part of my development and for that I thank them, and especially him.

I also thank you Jack Hugele for your care and effort in attempting to save and striving to return him, as well as for one more example of the kind of remembrance I am talking about. I can tell you that Rick has 3 beautiful and brilliant grand-daughters, the oldest of which is attending a very good university in Boston on a full scholarship and the other two still at home on track for the same level of success. A happy and proud son in me, and a daughter-in-law (my wife) working LONG hours as an out-patient Psychiatrist at our local VA hospital.
