Doc Wickliffe - Senior Corpsman, Hill 881 S, India Co, 3/26 Marines, 5th MarDiv, Khe Sanh, Tet '68
Doc, I love you. You were my senior corpsman. I was your 1st platoon corpsman.
We saw intense action on Jan 19 & 20th, off the Hill 881 S. A battalion of NVA waited to ambush us. Remember how we lost more than half our unit? The medevacs, the downed choppers we had to rescue?
That night more NVA, possibly division sized, attempted to overrun our sister hill 861... but together, we repulsed them after hours of combat.
The next morning back on the hill, as a working party of marines were wounded at the chopper LZ, while unloading ammo and water, a subsequent mortar round took you out just as we had joined the scene. You were seriously injured. I medevac'd you to Khe Sanh base Med bn, where you succumbed to your wounds the next day. Gosh "Doc", you dreamed of going to Med School. You were brave, and you loved your marines. Thank you for setting the high bar for me....as the next senior corpsman to stand in. TET '68 the Battle for Khe Sanh. India 3/26, 5MarDiv attached to 3rd MarDiv, RVN.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear HM3 Robert Logan Wickliffe, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter
