REMEMBRANCES

LEFT FOR ROBERT RAYMOND BRETT
POSTED ON 4.27.2013

If I should die...remembrances for LT Robert Raymond BRETT, USN...who made the ultimate sacrifice!!!

If I should die, and leave you here awhile, be not like others, sore undone, who keep long vigils by the silent dust, and weep...for MY sake, turn again to life, and smile...Nerving thy heart, and trembling hand to do something to comfort other hearts than thine...Complete these dear, unfinished tasks of mine...and I, perchance, may therein comfort you.

Always Remembered

I was baptised and recieved First Holy Communion from Fr. Brett while at Camp Evans, Viet Nam.
His inspiration and memory has chartered the course of my life since.
What greater tribute then to know how many lives the good Father has touched.
Respectfully submitted.

The Philadelphia Inquirer - February 27, 1968

A Catholic chaplain from Collingdale (PA) who said he wanted to be where "the men need me most" has been killed in action at the Marine Corps base at Khe Sanh, South Vietnam.
Navy Lt. Robert R. Brett, of 1001 Bartram ave., died Thursday of multiple mortar wounds. He was attached to the 3rd Marine Division.
"He was neither a dove nor a hawk," said a member of Lt. Brett's family. "But he wanted to be where the men needed him most." The 32-year-old priest requested overseas active duty.

ORDAINED IN 1962

He was a graduate of Catholic University and was ordained as a Marist priest in February, 1962. Lt. Brett enlisted in the Navy five years later while on a teaching assignment at Immaculate Seminary, Lafayette, La.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Margaret Brett; two brothers, Joseph and the Rev. Francis Brett and two sisters, Mrs. Rosemary Rouse and Mrs. Anastasia Lawlor.
