Thank you for your service to our country so long ago sir. The remembrance from your friend Charles Severino is touching and reflects his admiration and respect for you. As long as you are remembered you will remain in our hearts forever.

Dear PFC John West, Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. Your 74th birthday just passed, happy birthday. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. It is Advent, Gaudete Sunday, and Christmas is soon. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance, and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

You would never remember me...I was a kid who lived at the top of 26th street. I was a freshman and you were a senior. I was just beginning high school and you were just getting out but I clearly remember you. I heard that you died in Vietnam and felt sadness. A few weeks later I recall delivering trays of food to a house up in North Bergen where your family gathered after your funeral. Today is Memorial Day 2016. Had you lived you no doubt would have enjoyed a life similar to mine. A wife, children and by now grandchildren. How can I ever than you for giving your life so the rest of us could enjoy freedom? What would you think of the world today? Rest in Peace!

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
