Thank You

Dear Lcpl George Webb, Thank you for your service as a Rifleman. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Thanksgiving is soon. Happy Thanksgiving. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Final Mission of LCPL George G. K. Webb Jr.

LCPL George G. K. Webb Jr. was a rifleman serving with K Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division. Nicknamed “Pineapple” due to his Hawaiian heritage, LCPL Webb reportedly also served as a grenadier, extremely skilled with the M79 grenade launcher. On February 10, 1966, K Company was conducting a patrol two miles south of the Tuy Loan Bridge in Quang Nam Province, RVN. While the patrol was crossing a stream, a booby-trapped M26 grenade with a trip wire placed under water was detonated. Webb was fatally injured in the blast after suffering fragmentation wounds to the chest, right leg, and left arm. Two other Marines were injured in the incident. E/2/9, K/3/3 Fellow Marine

I often heard the name of George G. Webb from my husband, S/Sgt. Frank Urrutia. E/2/9 and K/3/3 were among the companies Frank served with in VN. He spoke very highly and with much regard for George Webb. Frank found Webb's name on the moving wall many years ago when it came to Santa Cruz CA. He has never forgotten Webb, not once in these past 50 years. Had he known about this website, my husband would have gladly written a fond remembrance himself. But my husband just passed away in January 2014. VN operations Frank participated in were Operation Starlight, Golden Fleece, and Harvest Moon.
