Final Mission of EN3 Daniel D. Webb
On March 7, 1968, PBR-715, a U.S. Navy riverine patrol boat from River Division 51, was operating on the Ham Luong River about ½ mile west of Ben Tre in Kien Hoa Province, RVN, when it encountered heavy automatic-weapon, small-arms, and rocket fire. As PBR-715 sailors commenced a return fire, a B-40 rocket-propelled grenade slammed into the after .50 caliber machinegun, mortally wounding the after gunner, EN3 Daniel D. Webb, and wounding three other crewmen. The boat cleared the area as additional rockets exploded in the water. Enemy casualties were undetermined.
