"WE WERE SOLDIERS TOGETHER IN THE VIETNAM / CAMBODIAN WAR 1970"
We were soldiers together in Cambodia
Posted on Dec. 21st /2013 - by John W. Hart [email protected]
He was in my platoon, in my squad as we led the way on June 19th, 1970. I remember him as a brave young leader who never coward, cried, ran from duty but, led as bravely as anyone could. He was someone to be proud of as a son, brother and friend. He was decent and kind with a good head on his shoulder. He was killed a few miles inside Cambodia along the Ho Chi Minh trail.
Johnny, was on the M-60 gunner team (two man team) one day he would carry the big gun and the next day he would carry much more of the ammo.
It was Otto's turn to carry the big machine gun; but for some reason Johnny volunteered to carry the big gun. We were saddling up to get moving that morning and I stood next to him and the other M-60 gun team member and heard Johnny speak up and volunteer. Within the hour, we walked into an ambush, the North Vietnamese Army were waiting for us; Johnny and two other soldiers in my squad were killed in action that day.
Johnny was my best friend in that war.
I miss and think about him daily. He is forever young and one of my heroes. "We were soldiers once together AND BROTHERS FOR ETERNITY."
He gave his life so that the World could live in freedom.

NATIVE AMERICAN PRAYER
It is said a man hasn't died as long as he is remembered. This prayer is a way for families, friends and fellow veterans to remember our fallen brothers and sisters. Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning hush, I am the swift, uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight, I am the stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die.
