Dear SSgt Gary Washenik, Thank you for your service as a Medical NCO. Thank you for the lives you saved. The 53rd anniversary of the start of your tour was 5 days ago. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Veterans’ Day is soon. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance, and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Staff Sergeant Gary L. Washenik was awarded the Silver Star Medal for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action. He served as a Medical NCO (Combat Medic) and was assigned to HHC, 2ND BN, 502ND INFANTRY, 101ST ABN DIV.

If I remember correctly as a kid going to Junior high School in North Miami Beach there was a rexall drug store and if my memory serves me correct his Gary's mother worked at that drugstore and I believe she worked the restaurant part of the he carry was a junior high classmate of mine

Hard to believe it's been 47 years since we got the news. I still dream about you occasionally.. thunder usually wakes me up. I remember like yesterday going to Bahia Honda, and the night we drove all over Miami Beach in a convertible with Roy Orbison singing "Pretty Woman" at full volume. I'm an old woman now, but you - you are Forever Young. Happy Memorial Day, love.
