He died during an assault on enemy positions at Hoi An

LCpl. Michael Wargo, USMC, was killed during a rubber boat assault across the Hoi An River, May 9, 1967. He was attached to Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines. We had fought our way to the river for a couple of days, taking a number of casualties. On May 9th, Mike was killed by an exploding Bouncing Betty land mine while climbing up the enemy-held bank of the river. He died beside Cpl. Henry Smith, Chief radioman for our Forward Air Control Team [See: Panel 19E, Line 74.] Michael was new in country, and it was his first patrol. I was wounded as were six or eight others. Dennis is buried in Harrisburg, PA. Well done, Marine! Semper Fi!

A good team mate

Dennis and I were on the swimming team in high school. He was a good guy. Met him once on a street in Clairton after he joined the Marine Corp but before he went to Vietnam. I think of him often
