THE WALL OF FACES

The war may be forgotten but the warrior will always be remembered !!!! All gave Some-Some gave All. Rest in peace Kurt. :-(

I served with Kurt as his Platoon Leader (1st Platoon, B Troop, 11ACR). He was assigned to be a Machine Gunner on my ACAV (M113 Modified Armored Personnel Carrier). I will never forget Kurt or the events of July 18, 1968. The Platoon was traveling alone North to An Loc, when we were ambushed by a large enemy force. The initial burst of enemy machine gun fire killed Kurt & wounded another gunner. It also destroyed my radios, so our situation was bleak, but we were able to return enough fire to suppress the enemy & keep them from overrunning us. Support arrived & the remainder of the enemy was routed & mopped up, but at terrible cost.
Kurt was a fine man & a fine Soldier, who died an untimely death. I continue to honor his memory, and I will always grieve for his loss. RIP.

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
