Your Legacy...

Lcpl Walton: I never had the honor and privilege of meeting you. And although your sacrifice was almost a whole decade before I was born, I still feel like I know you. You see, I grew up with stories about you and my father, Eddy. You were his best friend in high school. While he was lucky to make it back from the war, you were not so fortunate. I always wished that I could know you. Perhaps grown up with the children that you would have someday had. Your loss has reverberated far beyond just those that knew you personally. My family has always honored your sacrifice.

Today, I am an educator and historian. I have been teaching about the war as part of a larger curriculum for several years, but now I am spending a great deal of my summer researching and preparing for a new class solely on the Vietnam War. My dad and I sat down to watch all 18 hours of Ken Burn's The Vietnam War documentary, and imagine our surprise when, in the final episode...the final shot of the Vietnam Memorial Wall...pans and stops on your name. Your sacrifice for your country is remembered. Your friends and family. My dad. My family. My students. And now the whole world. We all thank you and honor you beyond measure.

honoring you.....

Thank you for your service to our country so long ago sir. You died at 18 years of age. I am 75 and have lived a long and fulfilling life. It is tragic you never had that same opportunity. May you rest in eternal peace.

Friend and cousin

Harold lee Walton was truly a man among men. He had a very soft heart for both people and animals. I was nine when I saw him in his dress blues at Christmas I thought he was the most important person on earth. The world missed out on so much when he was taken from us. I miss you so much even after all this time my dear cousin and friend. I will see you when I get to heaven. Thank you for your ultimate sacrifice. (There is no greater love than he who would lay his life for his brother).
