Remembering An American Hero

Dear CPL Joseph Tommy Vandevender, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Remember

Recently, in my history class, I was given a short biography of you, and your story reminds me of a relative of mine. Like you, he was stationed in Newport. It made me think of how proud I was of him when he came home after Desert Storm. You died serving our country at the young age of twenty-one. Thank you for serving our country.

A Fine Person

Whenever I visit his grave I recall the fine person he was. We only knew one another for a short time, going off to serve our country.
Sorry you had to lose your life, especially hurts now that we hear about the lies they were feeding us.
God Bless You Joey
