Thank You
Dear Sp5 James Valov, Thank you for your service as a Nuclear, Biological & Chemical Specialist with the 1st Cavalry. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. It is the end of summer. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it still needs your strength, courage, guidance and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED
SP5 Valov was a Chemical Staff Specialist assigned to the 26th Chemical Detachment, 1st Cavalry Division, further attached to B Company, 1/5th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division as part of a bunker contamination team with SP5 John Thiel. On 25 April 1969, Thiel and Valov left LZ Dolly by helicopter to contaminate a small bunker complex found by B Company. The site was a clearing in triple canopy jungle five miles southeast. They were to return to LZ Dolly that day, but the situation changed requiring the team to stay the night. Shortly after midnight, the enemy mortared their position Thiel and killing Valov.
