New rememberance From Steven Payne Tuttle

I am reading my Cousins rememberences in anticipation of Veterans day 2004. My Email Address is [email protected] and I would like to hear from Nelsons friends and brothers. I appreciate all of you for writing and helping me know about my cousin. Yesterday I opened a box and viewed my Fathers pictures from the 50's. Nelson was kin to me and I am sure there would have been some resembelance. I only hope I have some amunt of the Charactor and dedication my Cousin Nelson had.
Thank you for rerembering my Cousin.

Remembering Nelson

I knew Nelson less than a week. We had just lost 4 men from our platoon in a firefight on July 9th. Nelson came into our platoon around July 12th. We went out on a couple of ambushes. On the morning of July 15th, after breaking from our bush site, we were riffing through a wooded area when we came upon a V.C. camp. The embers from their fire were still hot. We searched the immediate area. Lt. Tuttle went back to get the map from his rucksack where we had left our gear. It wasn't very far. He was probably gone less than a minute when a shot rang out. He died instantly. We searched for the V.C. but could not find them.

I remember Nelson Tuttle. I think of him every day.

Remembering my Cousin

To my cousin Nelson Payne

I never actually knew you yet I always wanted to know who that boy was in my mother's home video, playing on the loading dock of that feed store.

You were about 11 years old and my Dad (Dalton) was visiting his brother (Joe?) and my mother was making the home movie. When I found your name at the traveling wall everything suddenly fit.

We Tuttle's are easy to identify with our unique middle name.

My son is Kyle Payne Tuttle. 12 yrs old.

Dalton died when I was 16 months old & I never had contact with any more Tuttles.

I am proud you made a difference in our history.

I am sorry our families parted.

Thank you for your sacrifice to our country.

I live in Lafayette, LA and would appreciate any living kin to contact me via

[email protected]
