Dear Richard, I met you several times as I was a childhood friend of your youngest brother Dwayne. I've been to the "Wall" a couple times. When I'm there, I go to your name right away. Even though we were not close friends, it's an emotional moment for me because I knew both brothers Keith & Dwayne quite well as kids. Rest In Peace! You will forever be an American hero!

I never knew you, but our families were once neighbors and thus I knew of your ultimate sacrifice. I have thought of you over the years and how devastating the loss of you has surely been for your family, and on a day when you and they would have been celebrating your life. Recently, I visited D.C. and the memorial that bears your name and the names of too many other young men. I’m sad for the life you did not get to live and that your family did not get to share with you. Thinking of you on this Memorial Day; God Bless you.

Never Forgotten
Dear Uncle Richard,
Although we never had the chance to meet, you are always in my thoughts and prayers. This past June our whole family was reunited. I was married June 22, 2013 and the traveling Vietnam Memorial was on display in our town that weekend. Uncle Dwayne and his wife drove out for our celebration and dad and mom came up from Colorado. No one knows when the last time all 3 Turbitt brothers were together. There are no words to explain how I felt knowing you were there too. Thank you for the sacrifice you have given.
