A Day Of Confluence
Memorial Day, Bob would have been 87 had he lived, Father's Day coming up next month, June 16, 1968 was also Father's Day as mentioned to me by our younger brother, Rick. Rick had a family by then and he said that he never celebrated Father's Day again after that. I spent the day re-reading the 1965 build up of our ground combat forces in Vietnam. There appeared to be no "good" choices. Bob was stationed on Okinawa during that 1965 build up and went to Danang for his first tour with the 9th Marine Expeditionary Brigade, which was composed of the 3rd Marine Division from Okinawa. His first tour ended in the fall of 1966. He spent 366 days in the states and then the USMC shipped him back in Sept 1967. The USMC only guaranteed one year between tours of duty in WestPac (RVN). We miss Bob.
