Arturo you met your cousin Albert

You once said you wished you could have known your cousin Albert. Now that you are both together in heaven the two of you must be having a blast afterall you both have alot in common. You both left this world in the prime of your lives. You were both so young and both of you paid the ultimate sacrifice for your country and humanity. Take care of each other. We all miss you both.

What a wonderful example of the "Aggie Spirit". You know I will always remember Albert. I did not know him very well but I did respect him. He
was not too hard on us, he took most things lightly, he always had a winning smile. He struck me as someone who really enjoyed life. I remember he liked khaki a lot. He was always Mr. Spit and polish. He really liked "being an Aggie". I know now where he got all of his traits. You must have a great family. Congratulations to you and your wonderful family.

I did visit but have never been much for public expression. Rest assured that Albert, Hottenroth and many others crossed my mind this past Veterans Day and Memorial Day's before that.
To belie what I just said, I have taken as a personal mission here to clog our internal email with my own message about the day on each Memorial and each Veteran's Day. This was this years!
What is a veteran? Veterans are atheists, bigots, Christians, criminals, democrats, egotists or firemen. Some are God-fearing, honest, heroic, humble, ignorant, parents, policemen, or priests. Others are professors, Presidents, republicans, selfish, selfless, wicked or wonderful; most claim more than one trait. All were discharged honorably from the Armed Forces of the United States and each possesses human fault and virtue - they are us!
Consider the oath they took:
The Oath of Enlistment
I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

The Oath of Commissioning
I ___ having been appointed a ___ in the U.S. Army under the conditions indicated in this document, do accept such appointment and do solemnly swear(or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully dischelp me God.
The Oath of The Commander In Chief
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of the President of the United States, andharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter, so will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
Monday, we honor those who took a soldier's oath and upheld its demands. Veterans, living and dead, gave freedom to America; each honored his or her obligation while defending the Constitution of the United States. Honor them by imagining Amerika had they not.

Thanks for sharing; Albert was indeed a role model for me as well.

His Relatives rememberances

Jose Arturo Herrera, cousin
I just wish I would have been able to know him. From what my dad says, he is a great man.

Alfred R. Herrera, uncle
I frequently think about Albert. He was much like an older brother to me. Every visit I make to D.C. I try to make time to go to The Wall. And every time I'm there it seems as only yesterday that we lost him.
