Richard, I remember when I was in the 1st grade in Townsend school, in Ohio, I did not know a bit of English, being a migrant worker, I was being pick on by a playground bully, when this whirlwind ran over and knock the bully over, that was you and you told him to leave me alone or he would answer to you! You befriended me than and you were my hero till this day, we lost contact after Jr High school, I remember the day years later when my Uncle told me about you being killed in Vietnam, I cried that day. I also joined the USMC and followed you to Vietnam, but I made it home Thanks to God. I will always have a place for you in my heart, My Hero!

Dear PFC Richard Lloyd Thornell, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
