Ground Casualty
SGT Paul E. Thomas and SGT Cecil R. Smith Jr. served with 1st Platoon, B Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry, 196th Infantry Brigade. On April 4, 1970, they were disposing of captured enemy munitions on Hill 251 near Tien Phuoc when a grenade they were handling exploded unexpectedly. SGT Smith was killed instantly. SGT Thomas was medically evacuated and expired the next day. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]
