A Friend and a Comrade In Arms
Ronald Tanner became a friend of mine when we were both in grade school and High School together. I can not say we were buddies or old chums but we were friends to the end. I can remember good times and bad times throughout high school. We both shared several classes together and as I now look through our class yearbook it was a great pleasure to have him as a friend and a military comrade at arms. We both joined the U.S. Army that same year but we did not go the same direction as in the field of training. I did not see Ronald for sometime but then one day during my tour in Vietnam we saw each other. We did some reminiscing of the times in school, friends, and etc. Then we had to go our separate ways and we told each other that we would meet again when we returned to the United States. Upon my safe return to our hometown of Missoula Montana in September 1970 I was told of Ronald's death. It was a day after my return that his remains would be buried in the Missoula Cemetery. It is with a heavy heart and a salute to you my friend that you will always be remembered. Let us not forget all those who have gone before us.
