Thank You

Dear LCDR George Talken, Thank you for your service as an Unrestricted Line Officer - Pilot on the USS KITTY HAWK. You are still MIA. Please come home. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Today is the first day of summer. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it still needs your strength, courage, guidance and faithfulness, especially now. Be at peace.

Final Mission of LCDR George F. Talken

On August 2, 1969, LCDR George F. Talken was the pilot of a U.S. Navy A-7A Corsair II light-attack aircraft (#153185), call sign Red Falcon 302, that crashed into the Gulf of Tonkin while making a night landing approach to the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CVA-63). Approach rogered the pilot’s check-in, then contact with the aircraft was lost when it was about 17 miles behind the ship. The subsequent search discovered an oil slick filled with A-7A debris, substantiating the fact that the Corsair and pilot impacted the water. The pilot’s seat cushion and knee board were found, as well as most of the nose wheel and a piece of fuel cell. However, no trace of the pilot’s body was found by the searchers. Remembering An American Hero

Dear LCDR George Francis Talken, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
