I served with Joe
As memorial day weekend approaches, I always contribute some of my old photos and pay a tribute to those who I served with. The roster shows that 189 of us had served with
“N” company, 75 Ranger‘s, of the
173 Airborne Brigade.
Two weeks ago I was back in
DC , and I made a special visit to the “Wall.”
I always will remember those who I served with who never got to come home. Their are eleven names on that “Wall” of soldiers who I personally knew a their are those who I had witnessed their deaths.
I am remembering two Rangers who died just as the war was about to be over.
These two rangers were the last to die from my company.
Joseph Hayes from Kansas and Joseph Sweeney from Philly,
they were KIA within a week of each other. They had ran their last missions as short timers.
Few days after their memorial, at the fire base, the Pentagon had ordered a stand down, because our unit was being pulled out of Vietnam.
Their names are on panel W3 they died in May and June 1971.
We all gave some, but some gave all.

Thank You
Dear Cpl Joseph Sweeney, Thank you for your service as an Airborne Qualified Infantryman. I researched you on your 51st anniversary, sad. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Today is Flag Day, and the birthday of the Army. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.
