Remembering An American Hero
Dear 1LT Kennard Errol Svanoe, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter

Thinking of Ken
On June 1, 1969, Ken spent the night at DaNang, where I was based. He was scheduled to fly north the next day, and needed a place to stay.
I ran into Ken at the DaNang Officer's Club, and recognized him from the Academy, though I didn't really know him very well. Since my room-mate was away on R&R, I told him he could use my room-mate's bed.
We stayed up talking until well into the night, and realized how much we had in common. The next morning, we promised to stay in touch. I wondered how I could have gone four years at the same school and not gotten to know such a great guy.
