FELLOW VIETNAM VETERAN

SGT BOWMAN WAS IN MY COMPANY,BUT A DIFFERENT PLATOON. I WAS ABOUT 6 MEN BEHIND HIM WHEN HE WAS KILLED. HIS POINT MAN TRIPPED A GRENADE AND HE CAUGHT MOST OF THE BLAST AS WE WERE CLOSE TO OUR F.O.B. FOR THE NITE AND GOT TO CLOSE TOGETHER. HIS WIFE HAD A BABY NOT LONG BEFORE HE WAS KILLED. I ACTUALLY GOT UP TO HIS PORCH IN PONTIAC AFTER I GOT HOME,BUT COULDN'T KNOCK ON THE DOOR. I HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE WITH ANOTHER FAMILY WHO LOST A SON. I WISH NOW I HAD KNOCKED.

DEAR STAFF SERGEANT BOWMAN,
THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE AS AN INFANTRY DIRECT FIRE CREWMAN WITH THE 1ST CAVALRY. MIKE WAS 1ST CAV, SAY HI TO HIM. MONDAY WAS THE 42ND ANNIVERSARY OF THE MAYAQUEZ INCIDENT - THE LAST BIG BATTLE OF THE WAR BIG SIGH. MEMORIAL DAY IS APPROACHING, BUT ALL DAYS WE SHOULD HONOR YOU. IT HAS BEEN FAR TOO LONG FOR ALL OF YOU TO HAVE BEEN GONE. WE APPRECIATE ALL YOU HAVE DONE, AND YOUR SACRIFICE. WATCH OVER THE U.S.A., IT STILL NEEDS YOUR COURAGE. GOD BLESS YOU. MAY THE ANGELS BE AT YOUR SIDE. REST IN PEACE. YOU ARE ALL IN OUR PRAYERS.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear SSGT David Frank Bowman, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
