The Longest Night, The Shortest Night

DeWitt,
I will forever remember the date Jan13th 1969 at our base camp Cantho located in the Delta. Enemy sappers overran the airfield that night blowing up many of the aircrafts along with causing many casualties.
What proved to be the longest night of my life, sadly, was the shortest night of yours. As a member of the 271st Aviation company and more importantly as a buddy, I know you fought valiantly until you could no longer.
You are remembered by me as an honest and good man, carried yourself with pride and respected by all. Rest easy DeWitt, God has welcomed you home and holds you in the palms of his hands. You are not a name forgotten.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear SP5 Dewitt Studway Jr, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
