Remembering Sandy Stroud
My name is Cathie (Dees) Gale and my memories of Sandy are faint but very close to my heart. My mother, Jean Dees, worked for Dr. Stroud in Corpus Christi, TX for years (which is also where I was born). Doctor (as we called him) was like a grandfather to me and my older brother Aaron. I can remember Sandy visiting our home and swinging me around in his arms. I was only 4 when he was killed and to this day I can remember the look on my mother's face when she got that phone call and the tears and sobs that followed. Sandy was like another son to my Mom and Dad. Sandy's own mother had passed away when he was only a baby - and my mom stepped in and helped a lot with the care of him and his older brother Jim. Sandy's death was a tremendous loss to all that loved him but never more so than to his dad. Doctor always had this sadness about him and he never got over the loss of his youngest son. I wish I had been given the honor and privilege to truly know him but what I do know is that he died a hero and I am proud he was in my life, if only for a short time. My grown daughters and I will be making a trip to Washington D.C. in a few weeks and one of the first visits will be to the Vietnam Memorial - where I will look for Sandy's name and do a rubbing to bring home with me. I will put it with some of the hand written letters that he sent my mom and dad when he was fighting in Nam. God Bless you Sandy and God Bless the U.S.A.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear PFC Sanders Key StroudII, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter
