Remembered

DEAR SERGEANT BEBOUT,
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE. I DO NOT KNOW YOUR MOS, BUT YOUR SERVICE WAS APPRECIATED. .IT IS THE EPIPHANY. AND WE ARE THANKFUL FOR YOU. IT IS NEW YEAR, WHICH MAKES IT FAR TOO LONG FOR YOU TO HAVE BEEN GONE. WATCH OVER THE U.S.A., IT STILL NEEDS YOUR COURAGE.. GOD BLESS YOU. MAY THE SAINTS AND ANGELS BE AT YOUR SIDE. REST IN PEACE.

Misadventure (Friendly Fire)

SGT Stephen E. Bebout served with A Company, 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry, 4th Infantry Division. On August 18, 1969, near the end of his tour, SGT Bebout was injured in a friendly fire incident in which he had to have a leg amputated. He was honorably discharged from the Army in December 1970. He died suddenly on January 9, 1972, in Convoy, OH, due to complications from the amputation. His name was added to the Memorial Wall in November 1987. [Taken from vvmf.org and coffeltdatabase.org]

Thank you, Stephen.

Stephen,
I wanted to let you know that my 8th grade students and I worked hard to find out some more information about you and your time at Crestview HS this past Veterans Day (11/11/2014.) I found a couple of photographs from the 1966 yearbook and posted to this site. I am working to identify other veterans who died during the Vietnam War from Van Wert County. ALL of you deserve to have photographs posted on this site. I'll make sure to find you on the wall this May 2015 with our 8th graders. Rest in Peace, Stephen. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
