Thank You
Dear CPL John Sterling, Thank you for your service as a Rough Terrain Forklift & Loader Operator. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. The 47th anniversary of the official end of the war just passed. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Ground Casualty
PFC John C. (“Rock”) Sterling was a heavy equipment operator serving with the 137th Engineer Company. While performing road construction in a U.S. Army 290M tractor in Quang Ngai Province, RVN, PFC Sterling hit an estimated 500 lb. mine. The blast caused the fuel tank on the tractor to explode and Sterling was critically burned. He was evacuated to a military medical facility at Chu Lai where he expired September 5, 1969. Reportedly, as Sterling was winding down his tour, he repeatedly asked to be taken off road duty. His platoon sergeant, however, denied each request. Sterling was scheduled in a few weeks to take a trip with his best friend to Hong Kong for R&R before he died. He was posthumously promoted to Corporal.
