Ground Casualty
PVT Willard J. Bouchard Jr. was a Carpentry and Masonry Specialist serving with C Company, 577th Engineer Battalion, 35th Engineer Group, U.S. Army, Republic of Vietnam Command. On August 13, 1971, PVT Bouchard was participating in a land-clearing mission in Tuyen Duc Province, RVN, when he was critically burned by a grass fire. He was hospitalized with 2nd degree burns over 54% of his body. Bouchard was medically evacuated to the United States for treatment at the burn center at Brooke General Hospital at Fort Sam Houston, TX. On the 15th day of his hospitalization, Bouchard contracted a gram-negative bacterial infection and died. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]
