Once Your Girl

Remember, Andy, the way we were, young, happy and so comfortable with each other at Lincoln High School.
We were together the night before or a few nights before your departure to lend your life to the country's freedom. I had no concept of what that meant as I'm sure, something different to you as to me. It never once occured to me that you would not come home up until I saw your name in the newspaper. Oh how I cried. You wanted us to spend the night but someone told me that many a boy would use the story of not coming back so that we can be together all night so I refused. Maybe it was meant to be, maybe it would've hurt much more to lose you.
Well, I'm an old lady now with a bunch of health problems and I'm glad that you never will experience this pain.
We shall see each other again, they say...I hope to God that that's true.
Love,
Maria

Remembering An American Hero

Dear PFC Andres Sorchini, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Prayer

Dear Lord, lest I continue in my complacent ways, help me to remember that someone died for me today. And if there be war, help me to remember to ask and to answer “am I worth dying for?”
