Warriors in Arms
Doc arrived into Bravo Co. 1st Battalion 7th Marines Regiment
Hill 10 Quang Nam Province.
He was told by those working in the Company office I was from
Hawaii and he should locate me at the end of the company area.
My name is David Ka'aha'aina
( Aka Cpl Kanak ) in Vietnam.
We got acquainted very quickly
he recognized me immediately
From Mr. Kurosawa's 6th grade class of Wai'anae Elementary School in Wai'anae. I told him he
had superb memory and could spend the rest of his tour in Vietnam with me in my tent.
I was weapons section leader in charge of Rockets and M-60 gunners..
Michael was humble friendly and a likeable guy. Navy Corpsman are well respected around marines.
He stayed with me in my tent
Near the front door on the opposite end of me.
Michael got along well with everyone in 3rd Platoon Bravo Company 1st Battalion 7th
Marine Regiment 1st Marine
Division.
During a combined U.S. military operation in the mountainous regions along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Our platoon was attacked during night
by a well organized north Vietnamese enemy force with sniper fire and grenades
Inflicting heaving casualties
On our platoon as well as other members of Bravo Company.
Michael Dennis Sodestrom
Will forever be embedded in
.my memory forever. He is missed by all of us who served
along side him. Brothers in arms,.

Happy Birthday, brother
I was 16 when you died and I miss you all the time. I wonder what you would’ve become, I celebrate your birthday today. You would’ve been 75 today. You wanted to be a doctor and maybe because of that I became a nurse. You had a whole life of dreams a head of you but never had a chance to live them.
Now you are with mom and dad to keep you company. Rest I peace brother. I love you and thank you for your service to this country.
