49 Years Ago Was Like Yesterday RIP Brother
BZ as we called him in Recon was KNHA by a grenade dropped by Staff Sergeant Jim Marshall. KNHA is Killed Non Hostile Action a lot different than KIA, Killed in Action. Marshall did not yell "fire in the hole" when he threw a grenade at a tunnel entrance and walked on. We are all taught that in training! If he had yelled those 4 words, BZ would not have died that day!! BZ next in line, saw the same hole, pulled the pin on his grenade and then yelled "fire in the hole"; immediately after he yelled "GD you 6", Marshall's nickname. Two explosions ensued, Marshall's grenade and then BZ's. Marshall was wounded by shrapnel from BZ's grenade, hence he was listed as WNHA, Wounded Non Hostile Action. I was there with BZ that day!! There was an immediate investigation by our superior officers. Marshall never returned to Recon. Later he became a US Representative. He continues to tell a different fabricated story about what happened because he killed BZ accidentally due to his poor judgement. Jim Marshall is too much of a coward to tell the truth. I saw Marshall in DC in 2009 with 2 other Recon brothers who were there that day. He admitted to me that what I have written is correct, but he will not admit it to anyone else!! Still a coward! I remember 1970 like it was yesterday, Rest In Peace Brother BZ!!

I remember Michael...
I was in Michael's 1st Basic Training company at Fort Knox...I slept top bunk, he slept bottom bunk...about 5 weeks into Basic he got appendicitis...I lost track of him after that...I guess he was recycled and had to start Basic again..I always wondered that had he finished Basic with us his tour might have been different..Rest in Peace Michael...I gave his cousin from GR some photos I had taken of us in Basic..Peace
