With a heavy heart.

John, this is the 3rd year since moving out of NY I won't be at your grave site on Memorial Day to spend time in reverence and in respect for you. I still think a lot of you although I knew you so little. I hope my military service honored your memory and sacrifice although my service paled in so many ways to yours. My mom joined you in heaven last year and I know she hugged you so tightly when she saw you. I will do my best to keep your memory alive especially the sacrifice you made for this country. I often wonder if you're as disappointed as I in the downward direction this country has taken forcing me to question the worth of it all. Anyway, I am with you in spirit this Memorial Day as in everyday. My humbled respects, love and sadness in the time i missed getting to know you. I am proud of you and one day would love to hear your story and share together the times we missed together here on earth. Everytime I bow my head and cover my heart and with every tear when I hear taps or salute the US flag you are with me in spirit and in my heart. Until we see each other again accept my with love, prayers, gratitude and respects, your cousin, Sonny.

Remembering you on Memorial Day

I don't know if I'm your real cousin or if my parents were just close to your family. I was 10 years old when I went to your wake. Your loss had such an impact on me that I remembered you and prayed for you often. Your name is etched in stone at the memorial in Elmhurst Park in Queens. Even my grandchildren pray for you when we're there. Rest in peace.

Miss spending this morning at your resting place.

John I moved out of NY and this will be the first time in a long time I won't be able to spend Memorial Day morning at your resting site to pay my respects in person. That doesn't change how I feel and the influence, still to this day, you have on my life as you did throughout my military career. This Memorial Day you share, in God's Kingdom, with both your parents (Ellie and Jack) all of you now in peace, love and together. One-day, I pray, to see you face to face to say all the things I've posted on here and together celebrate. Rest well.
With respect, gratitude and love always, your cousin Sonny.
