Tom: My Neighbor and Friend
Tom lived next door to me in Forest Park, Georgia. We went to the same high school and graduated in 1965. His personality was quiet and somewhat shy, but his smile was quick and friendly. I liked and respected him as my friend. Like so many others then, he was drafted after we graduated. I was in college when I heard he had been killed in Vietnam. I was shocked and grieved then. Today so many years later, I still remember him, his sacrifice and the sacrifice of his family.

honoring you....
Thank you for your service to our country so long ago sir. The remembrance from your fellow soldier William Norvell is especially poignant. As long as you are remembered you will always be with us...

DO NOT STAND AT MY GRAVE AND WEEP
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.
