THE WALL OF FACES

Say not in grief he is no more, but live in thankfulness that he was.

Elmer and I went to the same small high school in Gorham, Illinois and attended the same Catholic church. To those of you who have posted I thank you for remembering him. To those of you who served I thank you for your sacrifices and to those who gave all, you will never be forgotten.

I was there when Elmer was hit. He was directly in front of my fighting hole. I remembered you but not your name until our RTO in conversation 52 years later answered my question. I honor your service and your parents grief over losing you my brother. I was turning 20 when this all went down. Till we meet again brother you are not forgotten!

Dear PFC Elmer Shields, Thank you for your service as a Infantryman. Your 73rd birthday is soon, happy birthday. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Happy Valentine’s Day. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Thank you for your service and your sacrifice. Thank you for stepping up and answering your country's call. Rest easy knowing you will never be forgotten.
