A GOOD FRIEND I KNEW

TODAY, MY LONG GONE FRIEND IS YOUR ANNIVERSARY, THE FIRST DAY OF THE TET OFFENSIVE. IT HAS BEEN A LONG TIME, BUT TO ME IT SEEMS LIKE YESTERDAY. HELL! BROKE LOOSE THAT NIGHT AND IT WAS CHAOS ALL OVER. I HAVE NO ANSWERS ON WHY SOME OF US MADE IT AND OTHERS DID NOT. YOU WOULD HAVE MADE A GOOD SQUAD LEADER, NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. I ONLY KNEW YOU A SHORT TIME, BUT IT SEEMED LIKE I KNEW YOU LONGER. YOU WERE A GOOD SOLDIER AND THERE WERE NO GREATER SACRIFICES FOR OUR COUNTRY'S FREEDOM THAN THOSE THAT PAID THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE IN VIETNAM. WELL, SOON I WILL BE IN HEAVEN WITH YOU ALL, FOR WE HAVE SPEND OUR TIME IN HELL!

Your life is not forgotten

John, Although we never met,
I just want you to know you are
not forgotten. You gave the ultimate
sacrifice, your life for what you believed
in. Sleep well my friend, and thank you
for protecting the freedoms we enjoy
today.
John, I read the lovely note from your daughter, you must be very proud of her. I am sure you are still watching over her and your grandchild.
