I was 8 years old when Steven died. I lived across the street in BG. I was so sad for his family and his brother. I think his brother was Mark. He was always like a big brother to me. The day of his funeral was a beautiful day. The peonies were in bloom. A slight breeze to move the flag on the porch. I didn't know what to say to the family because I didn't understand death or war, but I did know loss. If any family is still alive, I remember! Kristie Dillard Thomas

Dear Sgt Stephen Shaner, Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. Your 77th birthday was 2 days ago, happy birthday. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. It is another new year. Time moves quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.
