Remembrance

One of my fondest memories of my brother, Stevie, is when he used to give me and my friends piggy-back rides across our front porch, on 54th Street, in Philadelphia. I was very young when my brother passed away, so I do not have many memories. I do remember when two Marines came to our front door and told my father that he was killed. I remember every detail of that moment. It was and is one of the saddest days of my life.

Do not stand at my grave and weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
