A good friend

Dean was a terrific pilot, friend, and mentor to me. We talked often about a wide variety of subjects ranging from "the war", to family, and friends. I was a "short timer" when he was killed. I will never forget the shock and sadness I felt when I was told he had been killed. He had a kind and gentile spirit. 50 years later I hate the politicians and their stupidity for having us engaged in such a "no win" war. Dean was a good man. What a loss.

Remembered

DEAR WARRANT OFFICER BOLHOUSE,
THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE AS AN UTILITY & LIGHT CARGO SINGLE ROTOR HELICOPTER PILOT. IT HAS BEEN FAR TOO LONG FOR ALL OF YOU TO HAVE BEEN GONE. WE APPRECIATE ALL YOU HAVE DONE, AND YOUR SACRIFICE. WATCH OVER THE U.S.A., IT STILL NEEDS YOUR COURAGE. GOD BLESS YOU. MAY THE ANGELS BE AT YOUR SIDE. REST IN PEACE. YOU ARE ALL IN OUR PRAYERS. IT WAS JUST EASTER - GOD'S BLESSINGS ON YOU.

A child remembers

I never met Dean Franklin Bolhouse, but I have never forgotten him. I was in the second or third grade in Enterprise, Alabama when I learned of Mr. Bolhouse. He had been one of my father's students at Ft. Rucker, Alabama. His wife was with child when he died so tragically. My father was one of those chosen to escort the body of this hero back to his home in South Dakota. I am 52 years old now, but have never forgotten how sad I was upon hearing of his death. I felt so blessed that my father had returned from Viet Nam, not once, but twice. At the same time, I was heartbroken that this soldier would not be coming home to his children. Thank you for your sacrifice Mr. Bolhouse. I thank your wife and family as well, for they too have sacrificed much. You and they have not been forgotten.
