Set Boles was my drill instructor at Fort Benning Georgia. I was there in June of 1968

Sergeant Boles was a strong and tough drill sergeant. He was tough but fair. I survived Vietnam because of the training he gave me. You will always be my hero.

DEAR SERGEANT 1ST CLASS BOLES,
THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE AS AN INFANTRYMAN. IT HAS BEEN FAR TOO LONG FOR ALL OF YOU TO HAVE BEEN GONE. WE APPRECIATE ALL YOU HAVE DONE, AND YOUR SACRIFICE.
