Your son (T.A.Schroeffel) =my friend
Your son, Tom, was a friend of mine many years ago; our 1st moment was him sharing the fact that he'd always wished for (even a minute!) a chance to have known his father, (as he'd been apx 4mos in the womb of your love=Carolyn)
YEARS AGO Tom & I found a vet=Val Valentine, who met you briefly but shared a remarkable poem by you:
"IF U FIND HIM TELL HIM OF ME; LET HIM KNOW I GAVE MY LIFE SO HE COULD BE FREE!!"
My name is Carla, I'm in Portland Oregon.

Final Mission of LTJG Thomas A. Schroeffel
On February 18, 1966, LTJG Joseph V. Murray and LTJG Thomas A. Schroeffel crewed an A-6A Intruder, BN 151797, as the wingman on a daylight armed reconnaissance mission in a mountainous area about 70 miles west of Hanoi. During the mission, the two aircraft located and attacked trucks on a mountain road. While conducting a shallow dive-bomb delivery using retarded "snake eye" bombs, Murray apparently fell victim to target fixation and failed to initiate his pull-out soon enough, the Intruder impacted the hillside about 500 yards beyond the target. Neither crewman ejected before impact and the crash was not survivable. Both were declared Killed in Action/Body not Recovered. [Taken from virtualwall.org]
