Your service

Three years ago I visited Washington DC and took a picture that I now have as my profile pic on Facebook. I didn't know any of the names on the wall. I still don't. Today, while looking at the picture, I realized my hand was right on your name. Upon looking you up, I see you were only 18 when he died. Thank you, sir, thank you for giving your life to that my family could have the live li enjoy today and every day... thank you for you selflessness and may god bless and hold your soul.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear CPL Nicholas Lee Schroeder, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Nicholas Schroeder

Nick went to school with me in a small mining town
of about 30000 people, where everyone knew
everyone.
In those days, we all had to register with "Selective
Service" on or before our 18th birthday, then we
all went off to serve our country during the Vietnam "skirmish" years.
The mining company has since closed down, and the town we lived in no longer exists-
excpet in the minds and hearts of those of us who were there.

Nicky, we miss you.

I remeber that Nicky was the same age as my brother. Growing up in a small town like Eagle Mountain, everyone knew everyone. I have had many dreams of Nicky. I don't know why, he was 5 years older than myself. I have just always remembered him. His memory will always be with me. I had the opportunity to visit the wall in June of '98. When I found his name, I was overcome with emotion. I have a rubbing from the wall that I keep in my office as another reminder of his ultimate sacrifice. Nicky, we miss you a lot.
