A Great Role Model - A Tragic Loss

On January 14, 1970, my neighbor Marty Schiller was killed in action at Quong Ngai. Marty was a football and track star at Catholic HIgh and sometimes babysat for my siblings and me. He was in the middle of his 2nd re-enlistment when he died. Marty was one of 50,000 young men and women who lost their lives in one of the most senseless and destructive military operations of all time.I'll never forget him.

Riding for you

I have been asked by a member of your company in Vietnam to ride in your name with Run for the Wall 2017. It is my privilege and honor to represent you so you will not be forgotten. Christina Roulston

A Loss for So Many

Marty,

You were always bigger than life to me. As a younger (and probably annoying cousin), I watched you play football and run track and you were a hero to me back then. As the oldest in my family, I'm not sure any of you knew it but I always looked up to the older cousins. I remember the pride our entire family had in you and your accomplishments. No one who knew you could have been left untouched by your death. You were a true hero to all, now, and I hope I'll see you on the other side.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear 1LT Martin Sully Schiller Jr, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
