Summary of Service
On 10 May 1968, a detachment of one officer an 43 artillerymen from Battery D, 2nd Battalion, 13th Marines, at Ngok Tavak, five miles south of Kham Duc, was attacked by surrounding elements of the 2nd North Vietnamese Division. Having expended all artillery ammunition in a fierce defense, the Marines disabled their two 105 mm. howitzers and escaped from the camp with Vietnamese irregular troops under Australian command. Thirteen Marine artillerymen and one Marine aviator were killed in the action.
