honoring you.....

War drew us from our homeland
In the sunlit springtime of our youth.
Those who did not come back alive remain
in perpetual springtime -- forever young --
And a part of them is with us always.

Thank You

Dear Lcpl Dwayne Salter, Thank you for your service as a Rifleman. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Veterans’ Day just passed. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance, and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Remembering A Friend

I went by your grave this morning. Memory flashes of your funeral came to mind as I stood in the cemetery. But I also remembered the friend from Beatrice High School who was a very gifted athlete and a very tough competitor. Also remembered in May 1968 when we received news you were wounded and we thought you would be coming home. The next news we received was in August and you had been killed. The day you died was my sixteenth birthday and I can truthfully say I have remembered you each year on the anniversary of your death for the past fifty years. You were always grinning or laughing - 50 years later and I can still hear your laugh! I just wanted to honor your memory AND service and say you are not forgotten.

Friends

We had loads of fun at Beatrice High School. You were a Soldier and proudly wore the uniform. Though life was short your service and our friendship remain, you will never be forgotten my friend.
